What actually is VITAMIN D3?
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, with vitamin D3 – chemists call it cholecalciferol – being the most important. D vitamins are needed for metabolism, the immune system, and bone development. They are important for the regulation of the mineral balance, for the absorption of calcium, magnesium, and phosphates from food. In addition, vitamin D has an effect on mood. A vitamin D deficiency triggers various disease.
The human body can produce this vitamin itself from cholesterol – provided it gets enough sun, otherwise, it can cause a vitamin D deficiency. Because humans need UV light for the body’s own production of vitamin D3.
